" I have had a very positive experience dealing with AeroCompositites since my first contact with them, months before I bought one of their propellers for my Van's RV-8. The AeroComposites team clearly know propellers inside-and-out and they have always been willing to take the time to answer my questions. They were very helpful in working out the dimensional details for my extended hub-spinner combination interfacing with my "Sam James Cowl". I am finishing up the build of my Van's RV-8 and look forward to flying the AeroComposites propeller. I have heard only good things about its performance."

Val Kozak, President Valmac Industries, Dayton, Ohio, Van's RV-8 [XP-360 engine, FADEC equipped]

Service Centers

AeroComposites' propellers can be serviced at American Propeller Service (Factory Authorized Service Center) or at any other FAA approved propeller repair station (Propeller Service Center) selected by the customer. Service & Overhaul Instructions will be sent to the service center for use in servicing AeroComposites propellers. Should minor damage (e.g. nick, scratch) occur on blade surfaces, standard repair instructions are available from AeroComposites for performing the repair in the field. For serious blade damage (e.g. ground, bird, or lightning strike), blades should be returned to AeroComposites for inspection where a repair/replacement decision will be made. Propeller spare parts, including blades, are available from AeroComposites.

Inspections, Service, and TBO

Pre-flight Inspections-Pre-flight inspections should include a general health check of the propeller. These checks should include the following:

1)  Examine propeller for any evidence of external oil/grease leakage

2)  Examine blade surfaces (e.g. leading edge) for damage Lancair Legacy

3)  Check blade play with light side force applied

4)  Check spinner fasteners and surfaces for damage

5)  Check pitch control during normal engine run-up

6)  Check for abnormal vibration during engine run-up

Periodic Inspections-At least once a year, a general health check inspection of AeroComposites' propellers should be performed. Health check inspections should include the following:

1)  Remove spinner assembly to view propeller hub

2)  Check hub and spinner assembly for any evidence of damage

3)  Check propeller mounting bolts and safety-wiring

4)  Look for any evidence of oil leakage

5)  Check blade play by applying light side force

6)  Inspect blade surfaces for damage

7)  Inspect the leading edge sheath bond

8)  Replace spinner assembly

9)  With engine running, verify normal speed change control

Service-Routine service of AeroComposites propellers is not required between TBO overhauls. The internal hub moving parts are lubricated with grease, the hub is environmentally protected, and pitch change bearings are sealed with grease lubricant at the time of propeller manufacture.

TBO Overhaul-After 2000 hours of propeller operation or 5 years which ever occurs first, a complete overhaul of AeroComposites propellers should be performed. Detailed instructions for this major overhaul are included in the propeller Operator Manual and in the Service & Overhaul Instructions prepared for FAA approved propeller service centers (repair stations). The TBO work can be performed at American Propeller Service or at any FAA approved service center (repair station).
